Baan Khanitha
Located in a converted house from the era of King
Rama V that in addition to the restaurant, features an art gallery
exhibiting the work of talented local and foreign artists plus a
collection of carefully selected Thai antiques. The Thai style wooden
furniture and orange ceramic tiled floor gives a warm feeling of an old
Thai house. A large size restaurant with many different dining areas,
reservations are recommended as it’s very busy most evenings.
To start ‘deep fried fish and prawn cakes’ each
with their own dressing; ‘pomelo salad with prawns and lemon grass salad
with shrimp’ that had a chili bite to the taste. The concept of art
extends to the plates that are decorated with flowers carved out of raw
vegetables.
The ‘tom kha kung’ had a delightful taste and to
raise the profile of their food they served steamed snow fish.
With the meal we enjoyed a Sileni Sauvignon Blanc
from New Zealand, a perfect wine partner with Thai food. The service was
impeccable and we concluded the meal with ‘mango, sticky rice and
vanilla ice cream’.
