Tasty Thai at Arada Restaurant
This is my first visit to Thailand - Koh Samui and now after being here for almost three weeks I can state that it won't be my last. I was very impressed by the surroundings; the beautiful tranquil beaches, the peaceful jungle and the magnificent sea views from the mountains. And what about Big Buddha with its friendly smile and temples like Wat Plai Laem? These two alone already show how very skilled the workers on these wonderful buildings must be.
Another remarkable thing about the island is its inhabitants; Thai as well as foreign people, and they are all very friendly. In my opinion Samui is a well balanced and internationally orientated destination with many attractions and very interesting characters. Saying this, I have been to places for a drink and felt like walking into 'Cheers', a popular American situation comedy that ran from 1982 to 1993, where a group of locals meet to drink and generally have fun.
And then of course there is...FOOD!
Born and bread in the Netherlands and having travelled a vast part of the world I have seen countries like Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Sweden, Indonesia and a great part of South America and the Caribbean. I've experienced all the different culinary options these countries have to offer so therefore I consider myself somewhat of an expert when it comes down to food.
In Koh Samui one can make a culinary global journey as you'll find almost all the different cuisines that exist in the world. E.g. I was amazed to run into a Kebab stand near the Green Mango in Chaweng.
Being very critic about food and the way it should taste, I coincidently came across a cosy little restaurant called Arada, one look at the menu made me decide to sit down and give it a try. Arada offers a big variety on curries, seafood and meat. The restaurant itself has an open-air design with ambient lighting and offers a nice outside terrace with a beautiful water feature.
Restaurant Arada is situated on the Ghost Road in Bang Rak on the way to the airport, owned and run by the charming and hospital Khun Apple.
The first evening I had dinner at Arada I was served a mouthwatering green chicken curry which tasted so delicate, I'm not exaggerating when I say that I never had anything like it.
This pleasant first experience with Thai Food outside Europe persuaded me to come back for another evening of Thai Food at Arada Restaurant. On this second evening I ordered one day in advance one of my favourate seafood dishes; Lobster and king prawns. I was overwhelmed by the very tasty and beautifully prepared lobster, the finger licking king prawns and the spicy seafood dish (Hong Mok Pla) to go with it; I even almost ate the plate with it!
No need to say that I had a great deal of my dinners at Arada Restaurant because of its nice staff and the excellent food.
Go and try it yourself you won't regret it. If you have any special requests like the lobster I had, or anything else, contact Khun Apple one day in advance on 08-40599203 and your wishes will be a culinary feast the next day. Bon appétit!!
