The Cajun Experience at Mickey’s Cajun

The Cajun Experience at Mickey's Cajun

'What shall we eat today?' is that daily question echoing through your head. On Samui it's not strange to ask yourself that question for the simple reason: whatever cuisine you're looking for, it can be found on this tropical island. Recently another cuisine was added to the list, Cajun Specialties from the American South, introducing "Mickey’s Cajun". The origin of Cajun So what actually is Cajun and where did it originate? Briefly it’s the following explanation, Cajun (’ka:-jun): a person of French Canadian descent born or living along the bayous, marshes, and prairies of southern Louisiana. The word Cajun began in 19th century Acadie (now Nova Scotia, Canada) when the Acadians began to arrive. The French of noble ancestry would say, "Les Acadiens", while some referred to the Acadians as "le 'Cadiens", dropping the "A". Later came the Americans who could not pronounce "Acadien" or "'Cadien", so the word "Cajun" was born.

The Chef and owner of Mickey's Cajun, hails from Los Angeles, California U.S.A, where he played rock and roll, and blues guitar for many years before becoming a chef. Mick studied at The California School of Culinary Arts le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena where he received his degree. Deciding to explore the world a bit and the varying cuisines, he traveled to Southeast Asia where he fell in love with the paradise island of Koh Samui. He was soon recruited as the executive Chef for a major music venue in Chaweng where he introduced Cajun food to the island... Expanding his horizon even further and realizing his dream, the next step was opening his own restaurant, and voila, a new venue was born. The menu covers starters like Ragin' Cajun Chicken Fingers, Mickey's Mushrooms and Rock and Roll Ribs. Mains are nothing less than Mickey's Platter (including BBQ Chicken, BBQ Ribs and Saut?ed Fish), Steaks, Catfish and Chips and Salmon Steak & Tilapia, all served with potato and fresh saut?ed vegetables. And the other great thing is, nothing is really standard, because you choose how you want it to prepared; Saut?ed, BBQ-ed or Cajun Style. Experience Mickey's!
