Koh Samui Shopping
Koh Samui offers its visitors a wide range of shopping choices. Depending on what you're interested in you can make decent purchases on Furniture & Decoration, Gold and Gems, Tailor Made Clothes, Souvenirs and anything else crossing your way while exploring and endless browsing through Samui’s roads, streets, alleys and shopping areas.
Souvenirs
You can find all the usual holiday souvenirs associated with Thailand and if you keep your eyes open, shop wisely, you might even find something far more unique, a treasure that would be a constant reminder of your stay here in the 'land of smiles'.
There are so many ways to take a little part of the orient home with you. How about a hand-woven silk piece & loom for your wall or an original Burmese painting? Or how about the original Thai triangle cushions for your own little Thai corner back home? You could also enrich your home with a beautiful piece of Burmese Lacquerware or a traditionally made Plantation Chair, all ideas that bring lasting pleasure and true taste of the Orient.
For those seeking these real treasures there are small boutiques dotted around the island offering well made arts and crafts, quality silks, original paintings, handcrafted furniture and the real treasures of the Orient, Thai and Burmese Arts and Antiques.
Buying from a reputable dealer is essential, particularly where Antiques are concerned. It can be hard to tell the difference between reproductions, factory-made or original objects so make sure the shop advises you appropriately.
Also think about how to get things home, particularly the larger items like furniture or paintings. You should ask if the business you dealing with offers packing, delivery, insurance and shipping service to your country. Certainly nowadays many well established businesses offers the complete package of delivery including insurance from door to door.
And where do we find the best places to buy your piece of memory? All around the island I would say, sometimes you find the most unique this in the most remote shops somewhere on the island. Worth while are Chaweng Beach Road, Laem Din Market, Lamai, Nathon, Maenam, Bang Po, Choeng Mon and...actually wherever you see something while exploring Samui's scenery on a motorbike or in a car. Have great shopping fun and who knows what kind of unique piece you bring back home!
Tailoring
No self respecting businessman can come to Thailand without buying a custom-made suit. No layman for that matter as well! You never know when you are going to need a good suit, a cocktail dress or leisure wear. And the quality is that good and the prices that low that you'd be a fool to miss out on that opportunity.
Samui has a number of great tailors offering the latest styles and trends. You'll have a choice of pure wool, wool blend, cotton, silk, cashmere and polyester blends. Most tailors can prepare your clothes within 24 hours but it is best to leave time for a number of fittings so that they get your product exactly right.
Once your relationship with your tailor is established, the Tailor will keep your measurements and your contact addresses and be ready to send you more tailored suits in the future if required. So get dressed!
