Samui Traveller

Samui Traveller:

Can you give some background information about yourself?

Narit: I was born in Khanom which is south from Donsak. At the age of 6 I moved to Bangkok to go to school. After finishing high school I went to Art University for 4 years, followed by 2 years studying art in St. Germain in Paris. When I finished my study in Paris I moved back to Thailand and settled on Koh Phangan where I build a resort with 30 bungalows. At that time, which is about 16 years ago, there was no electricity and there were no cars on Koh Phangan. Falling in love with an English lady in that period, made us decide to move to England in 2000 to get married and have a change of life. We opened 2 Thai Restaurants in Brighton and I also studies interior design.

Samui Traveller:

What made you come back to Thailand?

Narit:

After spending 5 years in England, which was a great experience, I found out that I was only working to pay bills and cover the costs. I hardly had time for a private life. So I decided to move back to Thailand to enjoy an easier life. The funny thing is that I am still very busy with working and developing new ideas here, but I feel much happier.

Samui Traveller:

Why did you choose Samui as your new home?

Narit:

Well, I love the sea and have an affection with boats, so Samui was the best option for me to start my new business; a boat company. Our concept is different from most boat companies, we offer custom made trips to any destination in the archipelago. For example, you want your private speedboat to propose to your partner on a deserted beach on Koh Tean, including Champaign and lobster served on a table with white linen? No problem! You want your private yacht all day to sail with two couples to Koh Tao and stay there to watch the sunset while sipping a cocktail? Not a problem too! But also private snorkeling trips including canoeing, a visit to Marine Park or a day relaxing on a yacht away from the crowds; we offer any trip to suit your desires and make your holiday one you'll never forget! We offer this with our fleet consisting of 3 speedboats of 35 foot with 400 HP double engines and 1 yacht of 28 foot.

Samui Traveller:

What else keeps you so busy on this tropical island?

Narit:

We just finished building 7 bungalows including swimming pool close to the beach in Bophut to rent out. We also offer interior design for luxury villa's and resorts and we are in the finishing stage of a job for a hotel in Chaweng, which took us 4 months from the design to the finished interior.

Another project I am working on with a friend from Bangkok is to launch a Thailand web portal with issues about politics and environmental care of the country. After being abroad for several years there are many things that concern me and I like to contribute in the form of web discussions to open a forum to make things better in my country. I hope in this way that more people open their eyes and realize that a lot of issues can be changed for a better future.

On the same level we are working on a web idea called Green Samui. The idea behind this is to make a web gallery with photos and art which are for sale. It’s a non-commercial web site where we use the money from the sales for environmental care and projects to preserve the nature on Samui. The importance is that we bring balance between the building development, growth of tourism and the natural environment and not destroy places because we only want to earn money. After all Samui lives from tourism and we want to keep the island a tropical holiday destination with big smiles on the tourist's faces and see them coming back.

Samui Traveller:

That’s a very noble thing to do.

Narit:

Well, I just love my country. In England I had a good life and made good money, but what's the fun of life if you can’t enjoy it 100 percent? Coming back to Thailand I realized how fortunate I am and it makes me even feel better if I can do things back for my country to make things better, for Thai as well as foreigners. So if people have anything to contribute, have additional ideas for Green Samui or just want to book a dream trip, they can contact me on 08 9827 2078 or info@samuiboatcharter.com. I am always open for new ideas and feedback.

Samui Traveller:

Thank you for this interesting talk and good luck with your business and specifically with your projects.
