Fasting - has been recognized for centuries as being the single most important natural method to use to re-gain or increase optimal health. From Plato to Aristotle to Jesus, Buddha and Gandhi, all have recognized the importance of purging the body of impurities and maintaining a healthy attitude towards diet, exercise and spiritual maintenance through this simplistic method. Simply put, fasting purifies the blood, and blood is responsible for carrying nutrients and oxygen to every cell in your body. When due to unhealthy living we put our bodies into a state of toxemia we create the conditions necessary to allow for illness and consequentially a short life.

Ok, so there is the why we should fast but really you say, is it possible to integrate this into my way of life especially in a place like Pattaya? Well, if I could share my personal experience on the subject, I think I will be able to impart information and a practical bend on the subject. If you're living or taking holidays in Pattaya I'm sure you would agree with the fact that Pattaya is a party town and those things like alcohol, cigarettes, a whole lot of sex and just unhealthy food seem to go hand in hand most times with a night out on the town. Finding a balance, although not always an easy doctrine to practice at first, will allow one to enjoy life to it's fullest and live a life free of illness and is something that can be done when we have the right kind of information.

I was first introduced to the concept of Fasting and Colonics (a subject we will touch on in more detail in later months) in Koh Samui where I lived over 10 years ago. The Spa Resort in Samui is one of the most established facilities knowledgeable on the subject and they are friendly and caring enough to always be available to answer questions.

I cannot begin to tell you the benefits I experienced then and continue to experience every 6 months or so when I complete a fasting program today. At first, I remember thinking that it would be impossible to go without food for any consider length of time let alone be putting tubes in my most private parts (Colonics) but quickly realized that I wanted this methodology to be integrated into my daily life. If you understand the process it really is easier than you think.

The thing about it is, if you've never practised this science, you can start in an easy way initially and slowly and regularly do things at your own pace, listening to what your body says about the process along the way.

Think about how much in one day we think about eating. I am feeling hungry, when am I going to eat? Where am I going to eat? Who am I going to eat with? What about dinner tonight? and on and on it goes. You also begin to realize that most of us are "Grazers" that is we munch continually throughout the day and our bodies hardly have a chance to catch up in terms of re-building itself. The body has all of the tools to re-build but we bombard it continuously with impure food, poor food combining and the like and then wonder why we get sick.

With all of the Thai holidays celebrated here, many of which request that bars are closed, I have found some great opportunities to take the days off needed to integrate a fasting system into my life.

Try at first going for a day on just fruits or just pure water and then increase this time to a weekend and you will start to feel more energized and more aware. Once you start this regular type of program you can move to the more advanced type of 7-10 day no food and detox programs. One book that I refer to as my "Bible" on the subject is a book named: Cleanse and Purify Thyself by Richard Anderson available over the Internet.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone doing the more advanced de-tox programs here in Pattaya. If they are, they seem to keep quite quiet and don't advertise through the normal means so as to benefit the community and do good business at the same time.

Once we start to purify our bodies by purging it of impurities, it is only natural that we will also become to be more aware of what we are ingesting as well.

As I've already mentioned, it is quite possible to start the self learning process today or anytime and the benefits will astound you, I guarantee it.

If for example, you find yourself staying here during the Songkran Holidays and need a break from all the fun and traffic etc, stay at home and eat fruit for a few days. A great opportunity for you and your health.
