Out For A Beer

A ripple effect of grief shook Pattaya on Dec. 14th, when Steve Blumenthal, long term Resident, Husband, Father and Owner of Mermaid’s and TQ 2 passed away. Steve, was also our Writer for the popular Out For A Beer column and him and his OFAB crew entertained and informed many through the years with his Entertainment reviews. We at Shilpa Co., Ltd. dedicate this month's column in honor of a gentleman and friend.

I was taking a shower when my cell phone text messages kept coming and the house phone kept ringing. It was obvious something had happened...it had! Steve Blumenthal an old and dear friend had a massive heart attack and died after playing squash! Efforts to revive him were futile and it took over 40 minutes to get him to Bangkok - Pattaya Hospital.

Steve was one of the finest gentleman to walk the face of the earth. He was an Entrepreneur having arrived with little and doing and earning much. The most impressive earning was the respect he commanded. He was a giant in the community always busy but had time for anything and everybody.

I would accompany him on occasion to research his extremely popular Out For A Beer column, which he composed. Our research led us far and wide. It didn't matter where we went, Steve knew everybody and everybody knew Steve. He knew the girls and their heritage. "oh there's another beautiful from Isaan". I worked for Steve and it was a privilege and a lot of fun. He was a dedicated business man who knew his customers and how to run is business. He was receptive to any and all and business thrived because of it! He leaves a wife and two beautiful sons.

I'll miss the big guy, we all will.
