Out For a Beer

With so many entertainment venues catering to the single crowd in Pattaya we thought we'd take a much needed breather from the "sexy many, come inside" sounds of Pattaya and actually try a few things more..."normal". It's a funny thing incidentally how much better looking I seem to be at this time of the year. There's no doubt for the single guy, the girls are hungry at this time.

Anyhow, in terms of entertainment geared for couples there is actually more than one might think. There are some real good Pub type venues that are quite comfortable for actually anyone, male, female or otherwise dotted throughout Pattaya that really make for a wonderful night. You never know who you might meet Out For A Beer in this town. One of the favourite haunts for couples is Shenanigans on Second Road, next to Royal Garden Plaza. They will be moving to a much grander location in August almost directly across the street. Great cuisine and ambience and a friendly Manager make this a favourite especially with the local Ex-Pats. They've got an advertisement in the very front of this book for more information on their daily specials and itinerary.

Going a bit farther North towards Big C, Easy Riders caters for those couples and singles that enjoy a country style setting, live music and having a good time. The Public Relations Officer there, a popular Australian woman named Judi is always willing to have a good conversation with people whether they are Tourists or Locals and is a great source of information on travelling destinations around Thailand as well. I would be negligent if I didn't mention a wonderful husband and wife team just around the corner that operate one of Pattaya's best kept secrets in terms of Italian Food.

Da Tiziano just on the other side of Easy Riders and is a wonderful place to bring a date for a nice glass of wine and good food. If you're going around the loop, that is going down Second and then making the left going towards the Beach, Mantra, had been slowly gaining a reputation for being a trendier kind of hangout with fusion foods and sounds.

Although it's not uncommon to see a larger percentage of Thais both Local and from Bangkok, Foreigners are more than welcome and it's a great place to see the young hip with money to spend spread their wings. Continuing your journey down Beach Road, Gullivers is a nice place to enjoy drinks and conversation. The music seems to be always at the right level and I have had several business meetings there albeit with the normal accompaniment of after dinner drinks. Good pool tables and immaculate bathrooms for those people that have a thing about that. (you know who you are).

Passing the one of a kind arches of Walking Street there are several options that allow for couples or even singles just wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle. Kilkenny is a watering hole favourite by many and this well oiled company machine is proud to let you know they've got some of the best food and of course Ale in all of Pattaya. Say hello to a relatively new Manager and from what I can tell great guy, Andy who in due course will really get the word out on this one of a kind venue. Speaking of one of a kind, upstairs Soi Happy is an interesting place called V2O.

If you really enjoy Vodka and an excellent mix of varied smooth sounds you've really got to check this out. The last time I was there, Darrell the Club's gregarious Host showed me their unique ice bar serving what looked to me like over 30 different flavours of Absolute Vodka. For a moment I felt like what I think it must feel like in the middle of a Russian Winter but being pleasantly enamoured by that sweet feeling of warmth brought about by a raspberry flavoured shot of Absolute.

Definitely a must see when you are in that area and a great place again for couples. A night wouldn't be a night in the Walking Street area unless you stopped off at The Blues Factory on Soi Lucky Star. The newly modified and improved house band really has had the crowd rockin' and no one is ever disappointed by the calibre of music and showmanship presented there. Blues Factory is Pattaya's only premier Blues / Rock music venue which makes it a great place to go “Out For A Beer”.
