Out For a Beer

Out For A Beer – or Two Amazing Pattaya! A city that never sleeps. The OFAB staff decided to start our journey for our monthly report off the beaten track so to speak. Of course it goes without saying that Walking Street has hardly a real comparison when it comes to variety of venues all within a “walking street” however, this “city of angels” has action virtually in every nook and cranny on every street. Many of the venues that are mentioned in our column on a monthly basis are well known within the Ex-Pat community, but being that this column is geared to inform, then that's what we will try to do.

We started our night innocently enough on Second Road at the long standing Tims' Bar. Again, for those of us that live here and know Dtim, (no mistake on the spelling) this Institution supports at all times over 20 women dressed in, well, you know, hardly dressed, in the basic lingerie. Although, you will not find the naked dancing scenario that most Walking Street Go-Go's present, it seems, from what I can tell, that the majority of the people coming for a good time there are happy enough letting their imaginations run wild. Excellent music videos, a great sound system, pool tables and overall friendly staff make Tim's a good place to start any night.

There is so much action on Second Road at any given time, it's usually hard to decide which direction to turn but we went across Second Road and up about 5 walking minutes to Soi Yamota. Hot and Cold A Go-Go has always been a favorite place of mine and for most of the people who live here, we are always made to feel special there. Run by a Thai husband and wife team Hot and Cold does the usual "special" show around 8 or 9 PM and has a more intimate setting and approach to customer service. Hot and Cold does a draft beer happy hour that starts at 3:30 in the afternoon and runs until 8:30 every day of the week.

You will also find Hot and Cold open longer than most other venues around town. As is usually the case with Hot and Cold it was "hard" to leave but we decided to chill out close by to re-group at the Bodega Bar. Established long before most of us ever even came to Thailand, it's the open aired, fan cooled environment that you see so much of especially on this particular street. The live music was descent and the women there were very friendly. Although our crew were a little disappointed in the short, less than full drinks served, in so much as re-grouping was concerned, it served it's purpose. Directly across the street, the Malibu Bar, also somewhat of an institution, has non- stop shows featuring women and women of the third kind that are quite entertaining. They always seem to attract a large crowd which made it difficult when we showed up to find a seat but the people there seemed quite friendly. It's a great place for anyone who wants to enjoy this kind of show without having to deal with the large crowds in those other show venues you see in the same area.

Backtracking somewhat, we made our way back to our parking area on Soi Diana and visited the now quite popular, Papagayo Bar located next to Megabreak on the same Soi. Incidentally, for all of you die hard pool fanatics, Megabreak has over 20 well manicured pool tables and staff that will always be up to given you a good game there. Papagayo is one of the newer trendy places in Pattaya that almost seems a bit out of place on this Soi if it weren't for the fact that the intelligent Owners of this establishment spared no expense to support the fit. Coyote type Dancers and excellent music really gave the place a great energy. We had a great conversation with the women there who were in my opinion comparable to what would be considered "star search" material. Although most of the women there were young enough to be daughters for an old coot like myself living in Pattaya, that really was nothing new and I would say in terms of staff being friendly, Papagayo ranks high on the list. Finally, as it felt like we were at that happy point in our journey where some places start to think about dimming the lights we decided to take a chance and venture down to Soi 6. Many people in this town still think that Soi 6 is primarily a day time Soi and that not much occurs after 12:00. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

As soon as you make that left on the Soi, you will notice a bar named E & T Barely Legal Bar. Operated by a guy that has earned his reputation as being friendly and in tune to listening to his customers, we all had a lot of fun in this place. It's easier to say that there is something for everybody here and if you're the shy timid sort, well, let's just say I saw guys who seemed over a century old, up and dancing and truly enjoying what Pattaya has to offer. E & T could very well change the laid back passive atmosphere that Soi 6 has been known for by truly offering kick ass entertainment going well into the wee wee hours of the morning. Of course by this time, it was obvious that even our gratious host had to sleep at some time. If you find yourself at the end of the night and looking for somewhere to go outside of Walking St. this one gets the award for best after hours bar in the city. This makes E & T a great place to go "Out For A Beer" (or two).
